Hamilton Island, in the Queensland Whitsundays, will undergo a dramatic technology overhaul following the announcement of a multi-million dollar deal that will see ICT solutions giant NEC transform the Island into the most technologically advanced resort in the country.
The 10 year deal will see NEC provide Hamilton Island with a full suite of state-of-the-art telecommunications services and technologies with facilities like broadband, VoIP and Video on Demand, being a first ever for the popular holiday and conference destination - adding another dimension to the Whitsunday’s overwhelming appeal.
The services and technologies NEC will provide from June include:

The move is an Australian tourism first and provides NEC with a stunning platform to showcase its latest products at one of Australia’s most progressive holiday and conference destinations
The Island, according to NEC Business Solutions managing director Riaki Tanaka, will be so technologically advanced it will be a showcase of technological ingenuity and a visual testimony of NEC’s capabilities as the country’s premier ICT solutions company.”
He said the decision by the resort’s operators to undertake the technology revamp of such a scale will have significant positive business implications for the Island for many years to come.
Hamilton Island’s executive general manager Bob O’Toole, said he welcomes the initiatives offered by NEC.
