NEC has swept into the Number 1 vendor position in Q404 in the dual-mode IP PBX market and rocketed to Number 3 in Q404 in the IP phones market according to the latest figures from IDC.
In the research program, "IDC's Australian IP Telephony Equipment Tracker Q404" released on March 15th 2005, IDC notes the IP telephony market in Australia almost doubled in 2004 with 98 percent growth. The strongest sequential growth came from dual-mode IP PBXs. NEC was ranked in 1st position for Q404.
The dual-mode IP PBX (previously referred to as an IP enabled PBX) is a PBX created specifically for the IP market but with the ability to use circuit switching with traditional analogue or digital telephones.
Moving to the number 3 position in the IP phones market, NEC also had “explosive growth” of 481.5 percent in the Q4 IP telephones segment over Q3, predominately driven by the commencement of shipments of the VOTS deal which totally changed the landscape of the market.
According to Ken Hart, Group General Manager of Technology at NEC Business Solutions, the results are validation of the company’s aggressive moves into the IP market.
“Industry experts agree that while IP really moved into the mainstream enterprise telephony markets in 2004, this is the year for realising that IP is a productivity enhancing tool,” said Hart.
