NEC continues to expand its business in Australia, creating a wholly owned subsidiary, NEC Business Solutions – focusing on end-to-end solutions. NEXTEP broadband launched. Delivery of Australia’s first 3G mobile phones to Hutchinson. Implemented Australia’s First i-mode mobile phones for Telstra.
1990 - 1999
Launched the then ‘worlds smallest phone’ the NEC p5, cementing NECs reputation as a communications leader. NEC Australia wins the ‘Best Infrastructure in the World’ award from Microsoft for the MAXI on-line billing system.
1980 - 1989
NEC Computers is created along with NECs first personal computer. We undergo a name change to ‘NEC Corporation’. NEC installs the first NEC SX super computer outside of Japan. 10,000 PBX sales in Australia!
1970 - 1979
NECs satellite business continues to grow, and new generations of telecommunications equipment evolves, getting smaller and faster. NEC America opens a production plant in Dallas to begin PABX and key systems manufacturing.
1950 - 1969
NEC rapidly moves from designing transistors to the beginnings of their computer business. NEC produces the first cross bar exchange for the Japanese market – the start of NECs dominance in the telephony market. NEC Australia opens with just five employees.
1899 - 1949
From its inception in 1899, Nippon Electric Company rapidly expanded quickly becoming the first Japanese joint venture with foreign capital.
